Question to the Cabinet Office:
To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, whether his Department has made full provision for current and anticipated liabilities arising from compensation payments associated with the infected blood scandal.
In the 2024 Autumn Budget, the Government announced £11.8 billion in compensation to people who were infected and affected as a result of the Infected Blood scandal. This amount is based on estimates of the number of people who are eligible and expected to apply.
Payments are classified as Annually Managed Expenditure, and the funding set out in the Budget is neither a target nor a limit. The final amount will depend on how many victims come forward and their specific circumstances, and each eligible person will get the compensation they are due.
