Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what consideration has been given to recording data on rota gaps.

It is the responsibility of individual National Health Service organisations to ensure safe staffing levels.
The Department reduced bureaucracy by removing the burden of central monitoring of the Working Time Directive by leaving organisations to conduct assessments of their rotas and compliance at a local level. The last central collection of compliance data was in March 2010. There is no current proposal to reinstate the six-monthly collection.
