Government is investing £2.5 billion over six years to better protect the country from flooding. This includes over 1,500 flood defence schemes, which will better protect more than 300,000 homes by 2021. The Efficiency Review will take a strategic look at how government delivers services across the whole public sector, seeking opportunities to make improvements and drive value for money. Defra, like all other departments, will now under take a process of assessing the scope for efficiencies across its portfolio.
