Prisons: Mental Health Services

Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what estimate he has made of the total spend on mental health programmes for prisoners in England and Wales in each of the last five years; and if he will make a statement.

This question was answered on 31st January 2017

Information on mental health spending in prisons in England is not collected centrally. NHS England has commissioned all prison health services in publically run prisons in England since 2013 and allocates an overall sum annually for all health and justice commissioning but the data do not identify spending on individual conditions. Information about spending on prisoners in Wales is a matter for the Welsh Government.
