Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, with reference to the Supreme Court judgment in Bancoult in June 2016, if he will restore the right of abode to the Chagossian people.
This question was answered on 25th January 2017
The Supreme Court Judgment in June 2016 ruled that the 2008 House of Lords decision (which confirms that the BIOT Constitution Order 2004 is lawful) stands and as such there are no plans to restore the right of abode in the British Indian Ocean Territory.
