Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, whether the Government has raised the detention of photojournalist Mahmoud Abu Zeid with the Egyptian government.

The UK Government regularly raises human rights concerns with the Egyptian authorities, including the detention of journalists. We have also raised our concerns about human rights in Egypt at the UN's Human Rights Council and supported an EU statement in September which specifically expressed concerns about the arrests of journalists in Egypt.
