Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, with reference to the oral contribution of the Minister of State for Europe and the Americas of 17 November 2016, Official Report, column 387, what proportion of the 837 Chagossian people surveyed indicated that they wished to reside on the Chagos islands before they were asked to take into consideration what life would be like on those islands.

98% of the 832 Chagossians that responded to the public consultation indicated that they were in favour of resettlement.

After being asked to take into consideration the level of health, education and facilities that could be reasonably provided, 25% of the 832 Chagossians were in favour of resettlement.
