To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what steps are being taken to ensure the slaughter process in equine slaughterhouses is transparent.

There are strict legislative welfare requirements in relation to the slaughter of horses. An Official Veterinarian of the Food Standards Agency is present at all times to ensure that these legislative requirements are maintained.
