Question to the Department for Education:
To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what proportion of pupils on free school meals attend state boarding schools.
This question was answered on 26th October 2016
0.16% of pupils eligible for free school meals attend a state-funded mainstream boarding school[1] according to the January 2016 school census.
The census is available at: https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/schools-pupils-and-their-characteristics-january-2016.
[1] Defined as a school with at least 1 boarding pupil, excluding independent schools, special schools and pupil referral units. There are 38 state funded mainstream boarding schools.
