Question to the Department for Education:

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what assessment she has made of additional costs to schools arising from pupil intakes in which more than 30 per cent of children have English as a second language.

The Department for Education recognises that additional funding for pupils with English as an additional language can be important, which is why we have given local authorities the ability to allocate a proportion of school funding to schools on the basis of the number of pupils that have English as an additional language.
