Mental Illness: Care Homes

(asked on 14th July 2016) - View Source

Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what requirements there are for NHS trusts to share with (a) the Care Quality Commission and (b) other regulators the placing of mental health patients in care homes.

This question was answered on 19th July 2016

National Health Service trusts are not required to notify the Care Quality Commission (CQC) or other regulators about placing patients in care homes, including those with mental health diagnoses.

The CQC inspection regime of health and care providers, including care homes, includes assessment of how well patients’ needs are being met, which includes their mental health needs.
