Question to the Department for Education:

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, when the postgraduate teacher training (PGCE) bursaries for the 2027 to 2028 academic year will be announced.

Initial teacher training (ITT) bursaries are offered to incentivise more applications to ITT courses in subjects with projected higher need for new teachers. As such, they are reviewed annually to ensure they take account of the latest projections and are targeted where most needed.

Improved recruitment and retention of teachers in recent years means the department is reviewing which subjects would benefit from bursaries in 2027/28 to ensure value for money. We intend to announce the bursaries available as soon as possible.
