Question to the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade:
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, with reference to page 49 of the National Security Strategy 2025 published on 24 June 2025, if the Government a) still intends to publish a Research Security Strategy, b) by when the Government intends to publish this Strategy and c) which department is leading the development of this strategy.
The Government remains committed to publishing the UK’s first Research Security Strategy, which will set out the government’s domestic and international policy on research security.
The new Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade (BIST) is leading on the Strategy, with input from across government, and a range of sector stakeholders. BIST took leadership of the Strategy, as the successor Department to the former lead, the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), in July 2026.
BIST expects to publish the Research Security Strategy in early 2027.
