We do not recognise that a 100 year rule has been established for the retention of records. The Department works to the guidance published by The National Archives on the appraisal and selection of records which are retained and transferred for permanent preservation.

The records relating to contaminated blood have been published in response to obligations under the Freedom of Information Act, and records relating to the period between 1986 and 1995 transferred to The National Archives.
