NHS Digital publishes Hospital and Community Health Services (HCHS) workforce statistics. These include staff working in hospital trusts and clinical commissioning groups (CCGs), but not staff working in primary care or in general practitioners (GPs) surgeries, local authorities or other providers.

The following table shows National Health Service HCHS staff in specified staff groups and organisations at 30 September 2019, the latest available data, full-time equivalent (FTE). The mental health workforce includes staff who either have a specialist professional qualification in an area relating to mental health or staff who work in an area relating to mental health.
