Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, pursuant to the answer of 28 August 2026 to Questions 18015 and 18016 on Political Parties: Finance, whether it will be an offence to falsely register as a domestic elector when an individual does not genuinely living at a UK address and make a donation above the overseas electors cap.
Under existing electoral legislation, it is an offence to knowingly provide false information to a registration officer for any purpose connected with the registration of electors, for example in an application for registration. Therefore if a person applies to be registered at a UK address when they were not resident at that address on that date, they could be liable to be fined (unlimited in England and Wales, Level 5 in Scotland or Northern Ireland) or imprisoned for up to six months.
