This Government is committed to developing a new system for immigration that is fit for purpose and based upon the skills of the individuals seeking to work in the UK, rather than the country that they are from.

On 6 September 2019, the Home Secretary commissioned the Migration Advisory Committee to consider a new points-based immigration system for introduction from January 2021.

The Committee has also been commissioned to review the salary thresholds for the future immigration system and will continue with this work in addition to its work on the new points-based immigration system and report back to the Government by January 2020.
