Mayors and local leaders will be required to undertake impact assessments and carry out local consultations before implementing a levy. This could include consultation with relevant National Park Authorities. Following consultation, we expect Mayors to publish a summary of the consultation results and their response, including a final prospectus.

Mayors and local leaders will also have the option to exempt certain types of accommodation in their areas, such as tent pitches, touring caravan pitches and hostels, subject to local consultation. This approach gives leaders the tools to respond to local circumstances.
