Question
To ask the Right hon. Member for Kenilworth and Southam, representing the Speaker's Committee on the Electoral Commission, pursuant to the Answer of 7 September 2026 to Question 20431 on Voting Rights: Young People, what assessment has the Electoral Commission made of whether May 2028 is sufficient time to make the necessary administrative changes and undertake a canvass of the expanded electorate.
Changes to the voting age need to be implemented in a way which carefully manages the pressures on election teams and ensures newly enfranchised voters understand how to participate.
The Commission is continuing to discuss the sequencing of steps with the UK Government, to maximise the ease for new eligible voters to get on the register
