Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, with reference to the UN Report of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Islamic Republic of Iran, published on 17 September 2026, what practical steps the Government plans to take in response, beyond what has been established by the EU and allies' joint statement.
We thank the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for its important report on the human rights situation in Iran, and in particular the repression of peaceful protests that began in December 2025. As we set out in our statement to UN Human Rights Council on 21 September, we abhor Iran's actions including the use of lethal force against those who posed no imminent threat, the use of the death penalty, prolonged nationwide internet shutdowns, torture and ill treatment, and restrictions on fundamental freedoms. The United Kingdom continues to support the work of the Fact-Finding Mission and the Special Rapporteur, including through the adoption of a resolution in January to renew their mandates. We will continue to support efforts to independently document violations in pursuit of justice and accountability.
