The Government has committed to a minimum implementation period of 24 months from Royal Assent, which was granted on 3 April 2025. This period is intended to give those responsible for premises and events sufficient time to understand their new obligations and prepare for when the Act comes into force, and to allow the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to establish its new regulatory function. The Government will confirm the commencement date in due course.

Whilst there is no legal requirement to comply with the legislation until it comes into force, those that fall within scope of the Act may wish to begin considering the requirements before commencement.

The Home Office are working closely and in partnership with the SIA to meet this commitment and have published the section 27 statutory guidance in April this year. This guidance will assist those responsible for premises and events in scope to understand the requirements set out in the legislation and how they may be met in practice.

The SIA will produce statutory guidance under section 12 of the Act this autumn. This guidance is primarily about the SIA’s approach to regulation.
