Most social workers are not employed by the National Health Service, however there are a small number who work within the social services care setting and are employed by the NHS.

As of March 2017 NHS Digital data shows there are 327 full time equivalent social workers directly employed by the NHS in the West Midlands and seven full time equivalent social workers in Coventry.
