Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what estimate he has made of the number of teenagers with myopia compared with previous generations; and what assessment he has made of the causes of myopia in teenagers.

The Department has made no assessment of the numbers of teenagers with myopia compared with previous generations. The precise causes of myopia are not known but it is thought to be the result of a combination of genetic and environmental factors that disrupt the development of the eye.
