Whilst there are no specific activities to improve awareness of hypoglycaemia among patients with type 2 diabetes, NHS England would expect services to be delivered taking account of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines. Patient education forms part of the NICE pathway for management of type 2 diabetes.

Furthermore, the outcomes of NICE Quality statement 14: Hypoglycaemia are a reduction in the number of people with diabetes requiring medical attention as a result of a hypoglycaemic episode and a reduction in the rate of recurrence of an episode of hypoglycaemia requiring medical attention over 12 months.
