Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether the NHS' spend on unbranded generic or off-patent medicines has reduced since the Health Service Medical Supplies (Costs) Act 2017 came into force.

Spend on generic medicines in primary care went down by 4% in 2017/18 compared to 2016/17 whilst the number of items dispensed remained broadly stable.
