Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many failed asylum seekers have (a) been deported and (b) voluntarily returned to Somalia in each of the last 12 months; and if she will make a statement.

The table below provides the number of asylum cases removed or departing
voluntarily from the UK to Somalia in each of the last 12 months.

It is not possible within these figures to say at what stage in the asylum
process individuals have reached at the time of their removal, including
whether their claim has failed at that point, as those departing voluntarily
can do so at any stage without necessarily notifying the Home Office. The
figures therefore include all asylum cases removed or departing voluntarily to
Somalia, including those both awaiting a decision and those that have been
refused asylum.

The Home Office publishes quarterly and annual statistics on the number of
persons removed or departing voluntarily from the UK within Immigration
Statistics. The data on removals and voluntary departures are readily available
in the latest release, Immigration Statistics: January – March 2014, from the
GOV.UK website:
