Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:

To ask the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, what recent assessment he has made of the impact of the planning system on onshore renewable energy projects.

The Government recognises the importance of onshore wind in meeting our net zero and carbon budget ambitions. In recognition of this, last month he National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) was updated to help make it easier and quicker for local planning authorities to consider and, where appropriate, approve onshore wind projects where there is local support.  We will keep the impact of this change under review.
