The economic and social costs of crime research report which was published by the Home Office in July 2018 gives an estimate of the cost of commercial crime at £8.7bn.

These estimates are based on data from the Home Office Commercial Victimisation Survey and based on several sectors including the Wholesale & Retail sector. Data are based on the survey years 2012 to 2015 but are not broken down further to allow to make an estimate of the costs of retail crime in isolation.
