Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether his Department is taking steps to reduce the length of time required for settled status for young migrants on limited leave to remain.
The length of time it takes for applicants to be entitled to settlement will depend on which basis they were originally granted leave to enter or remain. This is clearly stated in the relevant policy guidance.
The Secretary of State has discretion to grant leave outside of the rules and Indefinite Leave to Remain in exceptional or compelling circumstances, including cases involving the best interests of a child.
