Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, how many people in hospital who have been identified as medically fit for discharge are waiting for (a) a care package at home, (b) a short-term rehabilitation bed, (c) a permanent bed in a care home, (d) a permanent bed in a nursing home and (e) another reason.

The information requested is not held centrally. NHS England publishes information about the daily numbers of patients who no longer meet the criteria to reside and this is broken down by the care and support they receive subsequent to being discharged. They also publish a weekly snapshot of the number of additional days total patients have remained in hospital since no longer meeting the criteria to reside.
