Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment he has made of the adequacy of NICE’s methodology for the appraisal of medical devices; and if he will make a statement.
This question was answered on 9th July 2018
The Department has made no such assessment. The methodologies used by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) to evaluate medical devices and diagnostics via its work programmes were developed following public consultation and subject to the approval of the NICE board. The methods and processes are reviewed periodically and any significant changes are again subject to public consultation.
