The Department will update its academy conversion application form and associated guidance to ensure that federated schools are made aware of the requirements of regulation 46 of the School Governance (Federations) (England) Regulations 2012 (SI 2012/1035) as they apply to federated schools wishing to become academies. It is for schools to ensure that they have complied with all relevant requirements at the point that they make their application.

The Department will also contact federated schools that have already submitted an application to become an academy to check that they are compliant.
