Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, how much the Government has spent on cancer (a) research and (b) treatment in each of the last five years.

The Department funds research through the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). NIHR expenditure on cancer is shown in the following table. Figures for 2017/18 are being finalised. The Government also funds cancer research via other routes including the Medical Research Council.
