Question to the Department for Education:

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, how many and what proportion of children starting primary school in (a) the West Midlands and (b) Coventry had literacy skills below the expected school-ready level in each year since 2010.

This information is in the public domain. The Department publishes statistics on attainment within the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP) for children at the end of reception year.

The percentage of children achieving at least the expected level across all the learning goals in the Literacy area of learning, for years 2013 to 2017, is published within table 2b of the ‘Early years foundation stage profile results: 2016 to 2017’ statistical first release.
