Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, how many physiotherapists were employed by NHS England in each of the last five years.
NHS Digital publishes Hospital and Community Health Services workforce statistics for England. These include staff employed by hospital trusts and commissioning bodies, but exclude staff directly employed by primary care, general practitioner surgeries, local authorities, and other providers.
The table below shows the number of full-time equivalent (FTE) physiotherapists working in the Hospital and Community Health Services for the last five years:
Date | Oct-18 | Oct-19 | Oct-20 | Oct-21 | Oct-22 |
Number of FTE staff | 19,442 | 19,912 | 20,888 | 21,861 | 22,684 |
