Tackling waste, especially waste from single-use plastic, is a key priority for the Government. The Clean Growth Strategy, published on 12 October last year, commits us to move towards zero avoidable waste by 2050 and announced that we are exploring the scope for changes to our producer responsibility schemes. This work will include looking at potential mechanisms to provide incentives to encourage manufacturers to design their products in a more sustainable way and to encourage the greater use of recycled material.

More detail will be announced in our Resources and Waste Strategy, which will be published later this year.
