Question to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy:
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, whether the proposed energy price cap will end the surcharge on energy bills for the Highlands.
Regional differences in energy prices reflect the different costs of supplying energy in different parts of the UK.
The UK Government has a support scheme for electricity consumers in the North of Scotland which is worth an average of £41 annually for each household in the region. This is paid for by consumers across Great Britain.
Ofgem will need to take a range of factors, including this scheme, into account in its design of the price cap on standard variable and default tariffs for all domestic consumers in Great Britain.
