Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what was the average duration of calls made to the non-emergency police phone number 101 in (a) the UK and (b) Wales in each of the last twelve months.
101 is the single non-emergency number for contacting the police. It was launched in December 2011 to provide a memorable and accessible number for contact with the police. It is shared with Police Scotland and Police Service Northern Ireland.
The number was rolled out nationally in 2011 with Vodafone as the single supplier for the service. Calls from mobile devices and landline telephones cost 15p regardless of call duration.
