Question to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities:
To ask the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, if his Department will take steps to place a limit on the number of (a) holiday lets and (b) second homes in small cities.
Further to the answer given in response to Question UIN 93582 on 28 November, we have committed through the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill to introduce a register of short term let properties. This will support the government's drive to improve holiday accommodation standards and provide local authorities with information on which properties are being used as a short term let. In addition, we have committed to consult on the introduction of a planning use class for short term lets. Subject to the outcome of the consultation, this would help local authorities better control the proliferation of such uses. We continue to keep the planning status of second homes under review.
