Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what estimate his Department has made of the proportion of people that develop (a) asthma and (b) other respiratory conditions as a result of poor air quality.

In 2018 Public Health England published an estimation of the potential health burden and costs to the National Health Service and social care system arising due to diseases related fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). These include three respiratory diseases, i.e. asthma, lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The report is available to view at the following link:
