Hold a referendum on introducing mandatory identity cards in the UK - 23,912 Signatures
(Estimated Final Signatures: 24,157 - 9 added in the past 24hrs)

We urge the Government to hold a referendum on any proposal to introduce identity cards, including the proposed “BritCard.” We oppose the implementation of a mandatory national identity card system, as we believe it could risk turning personal identification into a tool for state control.

The Government responsed to this petition on 20th October 2025 (View Full Response)
We have no plans to hold a referendum on the new digital identity scheme. There will be other ways for people to join a national conversation, including through a forthcoming consultation.

The Government responsed to this petition on 6th January 2026 (View Full Response)
We will work with stakeholders to consider appropriate exemptions as we deliver the relevant regulations. Exemptions will need to be finely balanced against the risk of creating loopholes.

Introduce a Pension Tax Lock to help protect retirement savings and incentives - 22,688 Signatures
(Estimated Final Signatures: 23,207 - 7 added in the past 24hrs)

The Chancellor should introduce a Pension Tax Lock: a commitment not to reduce the amount people can withdraw from their pension tax-free or the amount of tax relief given on pension contributions. We believe this would help ensure retirement savings are protected and people can save with confidence

The Government responsed to this petition on 10th December 2025 (View Full Response)
The Government is committed to ensuring pensioners have security in retirement and has launched a Pensions Commission to look at what is required to ensure the system is strong, fair and sustainable.

Continue Parental Responsibility Automatically when disabled children turn 18 - 19,979 Signatures
(Estimated Final Signatures: 20,307 - 13 added in the past 24hrs)

Change the law to automatically allow parents or carers to retain parental responsibility when their disabled child turns 18, if the child lacks capacity and remains in the parent’s care. We think this would remove the need for costly and unnecessary applications to the Court of Protection.

Introduce an independent appeals panel for school absences - 6,412 Signatures

As it stands, the decision whether a school absence is authorised or not lies solely with the headteacher or designated attendance officer. If this person deems the absence as not "exceptional" enough, or marks an illness absence as unauthorised, there is no formal right of appeal for parents.
