Wednesday 2nd September 2026

Asked by: Matt Western (Labour - Warwick and Leamington)

Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether she has made an assessment of the potential merits of (a) reclassifying biomedical scientists as healthcare professionals, and (b) including them within the healthcare occupations paid under the NHS Agenda for Change pay rates, to support NHS workforce needs.

Answered by Jo White - Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Home Office)

In their 18 December 2025 review of the Skilled Worker salary requirements the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) considered the requirements for biomedical scientists. The Government is carefully considering the recommendations in the MAC’s salary review.
