Written Question
Sunday Trading: Remembrance Day
Tuesday 27th March 2018

Asked by: Lord Cormack (Conservative - Life peer)

Question to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they intend to introduce legislation to extend the restrictions applied to retail trade on Easter Sunday to Sunday 11 November to mark the end of the First World War.

Answered by Lord Henley

The Government recognises the importance of the anniversary of the end of the First World War. The change proposed would require the introduction of new primary legislation and the Government has no current plans to introduce legislation to extend the restrictions applied to large retail premises’ trading hours on Easter Sunday to Sunday 11 November.

There will be many retailers large and small who choose to demonstrate their respect for this significant occasion and remain closed.
