Asked by: Jonathan Lord (Conservative - Woking)

To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, how much funding her Department has allocated in aid to Afghanistan in each of the last three years; and on what that funding has been spent.

Answered by Rory Stewart

For the last three years (2014/15, 2015/16, and 2016/17) DFID’s bilateral allocation in Afghanistan was £178m per year, in line with the then UK Prime Minister’s pledge at the Tokyo Conference in 2012. South Sudan: Humanitarian Situation
Wednesday 26th April 2017

Asked by: Jonathan Lord (Conservative - Woking)

Question to the Department for International Development:

To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, what recent assessment she has made of the humanitarian situation in South Sudan.

Answered by Lord Wharton of Yarm

The Secretary of State for International Development, the Rt Hon Priti Patel visited South Sudan on 10 April 2017. Severe food insecurity levels and malnutrition rates, including pockets of famine, continue to worsen alongside an unprecedented dry season and cholera outbreak. The operational environment is significantly constrained with severe access issues and diminishing humanitarian space. Fighting continues across the country, causing widespread displacement and driving the humanitarian crisis. There are 7.5 million people in need of humanitarian assistance and over 3 million people displaced.
