I am thrilled to hear the right hon. Member talk about the important role of trade unions—something I talk about constantly at the Dispatch Box, so it is quite refreshing to hear it repeated back to me. Of course, I cannot speak about what exactly USDAW’s legal advice is or what it is doing, but as the right hon. Member will have heard me say, we are meeting both USDAW and the business. Obviously, USDAW is standing up for its members, who are really concerned about their livelihoods in the run-up to Christmas. I thank it for that, and for its continued engagement.

We have three Poundland stores across Paisley and Renfrewshire South—one in Paisley itself, one in Linwood and one in Johnstone—and I have been contacted by many Poundland employees who are concerned about the current situation. One of them is Dawn. She has worked for Poundland for 21 years and has been a loyal and hard worker. She is now 64 years old and is very concerned that if she loses her job now, so close to retirement, she will be in a very vulnerable position and unable to get another job before retirement. What assurances can the Minister provide to employees in such circumstances?
