Commons ChamberI thank my hon. Friend for that important question. He is right: this is our devolution revolution, and we are working hard to ensure it happens across the country.
Gordon McKee (Glasgow South) (Lab)
One person sleeping rough is one person too many, but recently published figures show that 793 people have been left to sleep on the street in Glasgow this year alone. I agree with the Minister’s assessment that the best way to tackle this is with properly empowered and properly resourced local government. Will she restate and expand on the Prime Minister’s offer to work with the Scottish Government to empower local governments, so that together we can ensure that no one is left to sleep rough in Glasgow or anywhere else in the country?
That was a key statement from the Prime Minister, the Secretary of State and me, as the Minister with responsibility for this area. We have to work across the aisles, we have to work with devolved nations and we have to work with charities and businesses. A range of people at that summit today were stepping up to that mantra, and it is important that our local authority leaders take on that challenge.
