Wales Office: Universal Credit
Wednesday 31st October 2018

Asked by: Chris Stephens (Scottish National Party - Glasgow South West)

Question to the Wales Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, what estimate he has made of the (a) number and (b) proportion of staff in his Department that are in receipt of universal credit; and if he will make a statement.

Answered by Mims Davies - Minister of State (Department for Work and Pensions)

The Office of the Secretary of State for Wales is not an employer in its own right. The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) provide employer services on our behalf. However, members of staff can apply for universal credit in a personal capacity and there are a number of different factors which determine whether or not an individual is eligible. MoJ has no central record from which to determine the number and proportion of its staff in receipt of universal credit and it is not therefore possible to make an estimate of numbers.
