Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask His Majesty's Government what plans they have to ensure the British Council will not sell its art collection.

The British Council's Board of Trustees is ultimately responsible for the British Council's financial sustainability.

The Government highly values the British Council as a UK soft power asset and is committed to working with the British Council to ensure its financial sustainability. The FCDO is exploring all options with the British Council and the Treasury to ensure this.

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what is their estimate of the average number of British citizens who are in other EU countries, either temporarily or permanently, at any one time.

United Nation migration statistics from 2015 estimate that there are around 1.2 million British nationals living in the EU.

Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what assessment they have made of whether, in the event of a member state leaving the European Union, legislation on that country's statute book that originated at European Union level remains law until expressly removed by domestic legislative procedures.

In general terms, national legislation which is validly adopted in accordance with national procedures will remain valid until it expires, is amended or repealed.
