Thursday 29th October 2026

Asked by: Lord Hintze (Conservative - Life peer)

Question to the Home Office:

To ask His Majesty's Government how many individuals have been prosecuted in the UK for involvement in illegal migrant smuggling gangs since July 2024.

Answered by Lord Collins of Highbury - Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Home Office)

The information requested on those identified as being prosecuted in the UK for involvement in illegal migrant smuggling gangs is not currently available from published statistics.

The Government is committed to tackling the organised criminal gangs responsible for facilitating illegal migration. The latest published data shows that there were at least 1,900 arrests relating to organised immigration crime between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026, of which at least 1,700 were made by UK law enforcement. Further information on organised immigration crime enforcement activity is published on GOV.UK.
