Question to the Cabinet Office:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether the total headcount of full time equivalent staff within the Civil Service has increased since 4 July 2024.

Answered by Baroness Anderson of Stoke-on-Trent - Captain of the King's Bodyguard of the Yeomen of the Guard (HM Household) (Deputy Chief Whip, House of Lords)

Headcount (HC) and full-time equivalent (FTE) Civil Service employment numbers are published quarterly in arrears each with a reference date as at 31 March, 30 June, 30 September and 31 December by Office for National Statistics (ONS) as part of their Public Sector Employment Statistics release.

Between 30 June 2024 and 31 March 2026 overall Civil Service employment increased by 11,370 (HC) and 10,435 (FTE).

Data for 30 June 2026 is due for publication by ONS on 15 September 2026.

Headcount (HC) and full-time equivalent (FTE) Civil Service employment numbers are published quarterly in arrears by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) as part of their Public Sector Employment Statistics release.

The Latest data available, from the release on 31 March 2026, shows that overall Civil Service employment stands at 557,635 (HC) and 523,635 (FTE).

The Data from 30 June 2026 is due for publication by ONS on 15 September 2026.
